Lady Augusta, 1853

BUILT :            Pyrmont, Sydney.

WHO:              Chowne and Company.

DESIGN:           Francis Cadell

TYPE:              Steamer - wooden.

LAUNCHED:      24th of March, 1853.

CAPTAIN:         Francis Cadell

NAMED:           Lady Augusta, after the wife of the Governor 

                      of the Colony of South Australia.

PURPOSE:        Cadell wanted to be part of the wool trade, taking the

                      wool clip by steamer to the markets at the coast. He

                      would also be able to take supplies and goods to the

                      settlers along the Murray River. 

1869:              Engines removed and P.S. Lady Augusta converted into

                      a barge.

1879:              P.S. Lady Augusta laid as a wreck opposite Echuca

                     Wharf. It is still there under a sand spit on the bend of

                     the river.
